January Update
Webelos II Den 2
The Webelos had a great time at winter camp. They were able to balance their sports obligations with the fun at camp. The boys have been busy completing more achievements. They completed travel and geology. Since the boys completed these, they are eligible to receive another compass point. Ethan has completed the above as well as artist and craftsman. Dylan McIntyre has been participating in our den meetings and has completed the requirements to earn his Webelo badge. Way to go Dylan!! The boys have one more meeting to complete their journey of Cub Scout. We have moved up their crossover date to the Blue and Gold Banquet. Since none of my boys will be moving on to Boy Scouts, we will have a simple but meaningful ceremony.
December 3rd Update
The boys have been very busy working on their activity badges. Our boys were invited by one of our local Boy Scout Troops to join them for a meeting. The troop worked with the boys on their scientist badge. It was great fun and the troop made the boys feel very welcomed. We also worked hard on the handyman badge. The boys learned how to change a tire, check oil and tire pressure, replace a headlight (also how to choose the correct one in the store), lubricate the chain on a bicycle, inflate a tire, and change a light bulb in the home, to complete this badge. Matthew’s dad spoke with the boys about being an Engineer and showed them the blue prints he used. The boys had many questions for Mr. Hasman and were very interested. They also drew a floor plan of their home, moved a truck with a come-a-long, built a catapult, and created the different kinds of bridges. The boys visited the Wal-mart a few months ago. This completed their Engineering badge. To add to their hard work, the boys have just about completed their Readyman badge. In addition to the advancement requirements, the boys have successfully earned their Compass Points Emblem along with two compass points. They earned this by completing the requirements for their Webelos badge along with four other achievements. To earn the compass points, they need to complete an additional four achievements. And finally, they have met the requirements for Cub Scouts Conservation Award. To be eligible for this, they need to earn the Forester, Naturalist, and Outdoorsman activity badges and have participated in a conservation project. While earning their three badges, they noticed how littered the woods were that we were exploring. On their own, they decided they wanted to clean it up. They found car parts, lots of plastic and paper debris, among other things. Thanks to Mr. Blue for taking care of disposing the auto parts correctly. I am so proud of these young men at how hard they are working.
Thanks, Tana Hasman
October 15th Update
The boys seemed excited to get back in the groove of school and scouts. In September, the boys completed the Sportsman requirements. This was an easy one since they are so active in sports. They also completed the Outdoorsman.
On Sept. 10th, we visited the construction site of the Super Wal-mart to meet a requirement for Engineering. They were not allowed to go in the building due to safety issues, but one of the contractors met with us in the parking lot to show us the plans and answer the many questions from the boys. FYI the store is due to open in March of 2008.
The boys also completed the requirements for Forester and Naturalist pins. Ethan completed Handyman and communicator. Next the boys will be finishing up Engineering and working on Scientist.
